Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how MyParental (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you and your family use the MyParental parental control application and related services (collectively, the “Service”).

We’ve tried to write this in plain English rather than legalese. Where legal terms appear, we’ve explained them. If anything here is unclear, please contact us at legal@myparental.app — clearer explanation is something we’re happy to provide.

This document is provided for informational purposes and is not a substitute for legal advice. The actual privacy policy on your live website should be reviewed by a qualified attorney in your jurisdiction before publication.

A Note Before You Read Further

MyParental is a parental control service used by parents and legal guardians to support the digital safety of their minor children. This means our service necessarily involves collecting information about children — information that we treat with particular care.

Throughout this policy:

  • “Parent” means the adult who creates and manages the MyParental account. This is the person responsible for the family’s use of the Service.
  • “Child” means the minor child whose device has the MyParental companion app installed, with the knowledge of the Parent.
  • “You” generally refers to the Parent, who is the data controller for their family’s account.

By creating an account and installing MyParental, the Parent represents that they are the legal parent or guardian of any Child whose device is connected to the account, and that they are authorized to consent to the collection and processing of that Child’s information for parental control purposes.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

When you create an account or use the Service, you give us certain information:

  • Account information — your name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), and (optionally) phone number.
  • Child profile information — first name or nickname, approximate age or birth year, and the device(s) associated with each child.
  • Billing information — for paid plans, payment method details handled by our payment processor (we do not store full card numbers on our servers).
  • Communications with us — when you contact support, your messages and any attachments are stored so we can help you and improve our service.
  • Survey and feedback responses — when you choose to share them.

Information Collected Automatically From the Parent App

When you use the MyParental parent app or website, we automatically collect:

  • Device and technical information — device model, operating system version, app version, language, time zone, and similar technical details.
  • Usage data — how you interact with our app and website, including features used, pages viewed, and approximate session duration.
  • Log data — IP address, browser type (for web access), and access times.
  • Diagnostic data — crash reports and performance information that helps us identify and fix bugs.

Information Collected From the Child Companion App

This is the most sensitive category and the one we treat with the most care. With the permissions granted during setup, the child companion app may collect:

  • App usage data — which apps are open, for how long, and during which hours.
  • Web browsing data — websites visited through supported browsers, used for filtering and reporting.
  • Location data — the device’s location, used for real-time location features and place-based alerts, with frequency depending on settings.
  • Device information — model, OS version, installed apps inventory, and device identifiers.
  • Communication metadata — information about calls and messages (such as contact names, timestamps, and durations), with content access only enabled if the Parent has explicitly opted in.
  • Content from communications — only if the Parent has explicitly enabled this feature for younger children’s age profiles. Content from communications on encrypted platforms is generally not accessible regardless of settings.

Each category of collection is tied to specific permissions granted on the child’s device. Parents can review and adjust these permissions at any time from the device settings, and disabling a permission disables the corresponding feature.

Information We Do Not Collect

A few things worth stating explicitly:

  • We do not record phone calls.
  • We do not capture ambient audio.
  • We do not collect biometric data (fingerprints, face data, voice prints).
  • We do not access the device’s microphone or camera in real time.
  • We do not collect financial account data beyond what’s needed to process subscription payments.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide the Service — operate the parental control features you’ve enabled, generate reports, send alerts, and sync data between devices.
  • Authenticate users — verify that you are the legitimate Parent account holder.
  • Communicate with you — respond to support inquiries, send service updates, transactional emails (such as receipts), and, with your consent, our newsletter.
  • Improve the Service — identify bugs, understand which features are useful, and develop new functionality.
  • Secure the Service — detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
  • Comply with legal obligations — meet our requirements under applicable law and respond to lawful requests.
  • Enforce our terms — investigate and address violations of our Terms of Service and Acceptable Use policies.

We do not use family data to train machine learning models for purposes outside the Service. AI-based alerts that operate inside your account (for example, flagging concerning content patterns) are part of the Service you’ve enabled and operate within your family’s data rather than across other customers’ data.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information or your child’s information. Full stop.

We share information only in the limited circumstances described below.

Service Providers

We use trusted third-party service providers to help operate the Service — cloud hosting, payment processing, email delivery, error monitoring, customer support tools, and similar functions. These providers access only the information they need to perform their function, are contractually obligated to handle it confidentially, and may not use it for their own purposes.

Categories of service providers we currently use include:

  • Cloud infrastructure for storing and processing data
  • Payment processors for handling subscriptions
  • Email delivery services for transactional and (with consent) marketing emails
  • Analytics providers for understanding how the Service is used (in aggregated, non-identifying form where possible)
  • Customer support platforms for managing support inquiries
  • Security services for fraud detection and account protection

A current list of subprocessors is available on request at legal@myparental.app.

Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required to do so by law, valid legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to:

  • Comply with a legal obligation
  • Protect and defend our rights or property
  • Prevent fraud or illegal activity
  • Protect the safety of users or the public
  • Respond to an emergency involving risk of death or serious physical injury

When we receive a legal request for user data, we review it carefully, push back when it’s overbroad, and notify affected users when we are legally permitted to do so.

Business Transfers

If MyParental is involved in a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or bankruptcy, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We would notify users in advance and require that the receiving entity honor the commitments made in this policy, or seek your consent to any material changes.

With Your Consent

We may share your information for other purposes with your explicit consent.

What We Never Share

To be clear about what we don’t do:

  • We do not sell data to advertisers.
  • We do not share data with data brokers.
  • We do not provide family data to third parties for their own marketing.
  • We do not allow third-party advertising trackers in the parent or child app.

Data Retention

We keep information only as long as needed to provide the Service and meet our legal obligations.

  • Active account data is retained while your account is active.
  • Activity data from the child app is retained for the duration specified in your plan — typically the past 12 months for premium accounts, less for free accounts. Historical data older than the retention period is automatically purged.
  • Account information is retained for up to 90 days after account deletion, in case you want to reactivate. After that, it’s purged from active systems.
  • Backups may contain information for an additional period (typically 30–60 days) before being purged on the regular backup rotation.
  • Some information — such as records required for tax, accounting, or legal compliance — is retained longer where required by law.

You can request deletion of your data at any time by emailing legal@myparental.app or using the account deletion option in the parent dashboard.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you have specific rights regarding your information. We honor these rights regardless of where you live, subject to legal limitations.

The Right to Access

You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you and your family.

The Right to Correction

You can correct inaccurate information through the parent dashboard or by contacting us.

The Right to Deletion

You can request that we delete your account and associated data. Some information may be retained where legally required.

The Right to Portability

You can request your data in a structured, commonly used format.

The Right to Object

You can object to certain processing, including direct marketing.

The Right to Withdraw Consent

Where processing is based on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

The Right to Complain

You can complain to a data protection authority in your jurisdiction. For European users, this means your national data protection authority. For California users, the California Privacy Protection Agency.

To exercise any of these rights, contact legal@myparental.app. We respond to verified requests within the timeframes required by applicable law (typically 30 days under GDPR and 45 days under CCPA, with possible extensions).

Children’s Privacy

MyParental is a service for parents to use with their minor children. The Service is not directed at children for their own use, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children except as part of the parental control functionality that the parent has set up and consented to on the child’s behalf.

If you believe a child has used the Service without appropriate parental involvement, please contact us at legal@myparental.app so we can investigate.

For users in the United States, our collection of information about children under 13 through the Service is conducted in accordance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The parent account holder provides verifiable parental consent on behalf of any child under 13 whose device is connected to the account.

For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and other jurisdictions with similar laws, the parent account holder provides consent on behalf of children where required by local law.

Parents have the right to review the information collected about their child, delete it, and refuse further collection at any time through the parent dashboard.

Security

We use a combination of technical and organizational safeguards to protect family information, including:

  • Encryption in transit — connections between your devices and our servers use TLS.
  • Encryption at rest — stored data is encrypted using industry-standard algorithms.
  • Access controls — access to family data within our team is limited to specific roles that require it for support and operations, and all access is logged.
  • Authentication safeguards — secure password storage, two-factor authentication support, and protection against common attacks.
  • Vendor security review — service providers are vetted for their security practices.
  • Incident response — we maintain processes for detecting, investigating, and responding to security incidents.

No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we ever become aware of a security incident affecting your data, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law and tell you what we know.

If you discover a security vulnerability in our Service, please report it to security@myparental.app. We appreciate responsible disclosure and will work with you to address the issue.

International Data Transfers

MyParental is operated by a team in [Jurisdiction], and we use service providers based in various countries. This means your information may be transferred to, and processed in, countries other than the one where you live, including countries that may have different data protection laws than your own.

When we transfer personal information internationally, we rely on legal mechanisms designed to protect your rights, including:

  • Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission for transfers from the EEA.
  • Adequacy decisions where applicable.
  • Additional safeguards appropriate to the destination jurisdiction.

If you have specific questions about international transfers of your data, please contact legal@myparental.app.

  • Analytics cookies — help us understand how the website is used.

We do not use advertising cookies on the MyParental website. We do not allow third-party tracking pixels to operate in the parent or child app.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the Service, or applicable law.

When we make material changes, we will:

  • Update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy.
  • Notify you by email or through the Service before the changes take effect, with reasonable advance notice for material changes.
  • Maintain prior versions in our archive so you can see what changed.

Continued use of the Service after a Privacy Policy update means you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you may close your account.
